Knidos or Cnidus is an ancient Greek city that is now modern-day Tekir, Turkey. Knidos (Cnidus) was first built on top of the Dalacak Burnu (point) to the north east of what is now modern-day Datca. The city was later moved to the top of Tekir Point which is on the western part of the peninsula.

This is the view from Aphrodite's temple of the double-harbor of Knidos in south-western Turkey, where the the statue of Aphrodite once stood. One of the most beautiful features in this city is the ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite, that over looks both the northern and southern ports. The temple was circular and had a diameter of 17 meters. A sculpture of Aphrodite stood in the centre of the temple and the doors opened towards the beautiful statue. All that is visible today is the bottom plinth of the statue. Praxiteles made his most famous creation for the city of Cnidus, it was called, the Aphrodite of Knidos. This statue was so monumental, that it set the standard for future female nude statues. It was sculpted in the 4th century BC and was said to have been purchased by the people of Knidos/Cnidus after the citizens of the Cos had it removed due to its nudity.

Here is the veiw from above, showing the site. You can clearly see the circular Doric temple, which was excavated by Iris C. Love in 1970. This site is where Love found the marble base and fragments of the famous statue of Aphrodite.
